How we work, wherever we work.
Aetheric is an expert lightning protection and earthing engineering practice built around expert people working across New Zealand, APAC, MENA and West Africa. Our team is distributed by design. This policy sets out the principles that govern how we work together, how we look after one another, and the standards our clients can expect from us. It applies to every member of the Aetheric team and to everyone who represents the company in a professional capacity.
We are a remote-first company. We hire capable people, trust them to deliver, and give them the flexibility to do their best work from wherever they are based. What binds the team is not a shared office but shared standards: technical rigour, clear communication, and accountability for outcomes. We measure contribution by the quality and reliability of the work, not by hours logged or physical presence.
Working across multiple time zones is a deliberate strength. It allows us to serve clients in different regions with people who understand those markets. It also asks something of us. We communicate clearly, document decisions, and respect the boundaries of colleagues whose working day may not overlap fully with our own.
Every team member is responsible for maintaining a professional working environment, a reliable connection, and the equipment needed to carry out their role. Where a client engagement requires attendance on site or presence within a particular time zone, that requirement takes precedence and is agreed in advance. Flexibility runs both ways: we extend it to our people, and we ask them to extend it to clients and colleagues when the work calls for it.
A distributed team only works when its people are well. We take the view that sustainable performance depends on genuine rest, clear boundaries, and a culture where asking for support is normal rather than exceptional.
We respect time away from work. Colleagues are not expected to be available around the clock, and response times are set with time zones in mind.
We encourage people to take their leave, to switch off fully when they do, and to protect the boundary between work and personal life.
We recognise that flexibility is not the same as constant availability, and we actively guard against the drift toward always-on working that remote arrangements can invite.
Mental and physical wellbeing carry the same weight. We support people in seeking help when they need it, without stigma.
Leaders at Aetheric are expected to model these behaviours, not merely endorse them. A policy that management ignores is worth nothing.
Our work spans many countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds, and we treat that range as an asset. We are committed to a workplace where people are judged on the quality of their contribution and nothing else, where everyone is treated with respect, and where harassment, bullying, and discrimination have no place. Constructive challenge is welcome; personal attack is not. We hold ourselves to high standards of professional integrity, we honour the commitments we make, and concerns about conduct can be raised without fear of reprisal.
Our full commitments on equal opportunity, respect, and inclusion across a distributed team are set out in our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy.
Much of our engineering work concerns the safety of people and assets exposed to lightning and electrical risk. We hold ourselves to the same care internally. Team members are responsible for maintaining a safe working setup wherever they are based. Where work is carried out on client sites, industrial facilities, or in the field, the relevant site safety requirements and applicable regional codes govern, and they are followed without exception.
Client trust depends on the security of the information they share with us. Everyone at Aetheric is responsible for protecting company and client data, whatever device or location they are working from.
This policy sets out principles rather than an exhaustive rulebook, because we trust our people to apply good judgement. It is reviewed periodically and updated as the company grows. Questions about how it applies in a particular situation are always welcome and are better asked than assumed. If you would like to discuss working with us, visit our careers page.
